I am very pleased to announce that Thomas Lawrence, MD, CMD, has accepted the position of System Medical Director of Geriatric Medicine and Long-Term Care at Main Line Health, effective immediately. Dr. Lawrence has been practicing geriatric medicine since 1992. He is currently employed by Main Line HealthCare and practices at the Main Line Health Center in Newtown Square. He serves on the medical staff at Bryn Mawr Hospital and Lankenau Medical Center. Dr. Lawrence is also the medical director for a number of senior living communities and nursing homes in the region.
In his new role, Dr. Lawrence will be responsible for strategically developing collaborative relationships between MLH and long-term post-acute care facilities in an effort to directly impact the quality, cost and experience of patients. In addition, Dr. Lawrence will provide leadership in geriatric medicine and, with his colleagues across the System, will collaborate on senior health initiatives including transitions of care. Dr. Lawrence is a member of the Steering Committee of the Community Care Coalition of Chester County and active with the MLH Patient Care Coordination Initiative and Senior Services Committees.
In 2012, Dr. Lawrence was presented with the Charles Ewing Memorial President’s Award for “extraordinary accomplishments in improving the lives of Delaware Valley seniors” by the Eastern Pennsylvania Geriatrics Society. A frequent lecturer on geriatric topics, Dr. Lawrence is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine and is certified as a Medical Director from the American Medical Directors Association. A graduate of Haverford College and the Medical College of Pennsylvania, Dr. Lawrence completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Lankenau Medical Center and a fellowship in Geriatric Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center.
With more than 22 years of health care experience in the long-term care setting, Dr. Lawrence’s clinical expertise and strong leadership qualities will support the advancement of MLH’s clinical excellence in geriatrics and commitment to a superior patient experience.
