Dr. Surkis named Department of Medicine Vice Chairman for Education

I am pleased to announce the appointment of William Surkis, MD, as the Department of Medicine Vice Chairman for Education.  In this role, Dr. Surkis will promote the Department of Medicine’s educational agenda, which encompasses student education, Graduate Medical Education and Continuing Medical Education.  He will work with the Campus CME Directors and Activity Coordinators to develop system wide programs in the Department of Medicine, including our first system Morbidity and Mortality Conference, which is scheduled for September 30, 2015.   Dr. Surkis will assist me as we interface with the American College of Physicians and the American Board of Internal Medicine to explore ways we can use our CME programs to help our Medical Staff expand their knowledge base and meet the evolving requirements of Maintenance of Certification.

 

Dr. Surkis will continue in his role as Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency Program, which consists of 52 categorical and preliminary residents.  Dr. Surkis will also continue his role in supervising our Internal Medicine subspecialty fellowship training programs to ensure compliance with the ACGME accreditation standards.

 

Dr. Surkis is a graduate of Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, and the MCP-Hahnemann School of Medicine and completed his Internal Medicine Residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He is a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University and is a Clinical/Adjunct Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.
