Lankenau Medical Center held a celebratory dinner on October 14 to recognize the establishment of The Mary L. Smith Endowed Chair in Pulmonology and Critical Care. The Chair was established by the Havens family [Peter (LIMR Board Chairman and Trustee, Lankenau Foundation and MLH Boards), Louise, Robert, Vicki and Serter] in tribute to Mary L. Smith, a treasured and longtime Lankenau donor, trustee, and patient.

Lankenau President Phillip Robinson said, “The Havens family and Mary Smith are such engaged and passionate supporters of Lankenau, that it’s wonderful to gather together tonight to acknowledge and celebrate all they have given to us, our patients and the community.”

The Mary L. Smith Endowed Chair in Pulmonology and Critical Care brings Lankenau Medical Center’s Endowed Chairs to a total of nine, with six new endowed chairs being established this past fiscal year. The chairs have been established in diverse areas representing Lankenau’s service line strengths such as Neurology, Oncology, Cardiology, Surgery, Biomedical Research, and Pastoral Care.

An endowed chair at Lankenau is established with a gift commitment of at least $2 million. These gifts also utilized the successful initiative by the Lankenau Medical Center Foundation, to match approved gifts of $1 million or more from the foundation’s unrestricted corpus, to meet the $2 million threshold for an endowed chair position.
