Interim System Vice President, Quality and Patient Safety, named at MLH

By Andy Norton, MD, Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer

It is my pleasure to announce the appointment of Sharon DiRienzo, RN, MSN, CPHRM, CPPS, as Interim System Vice President, Quality and Patient Safety effective Monday, November 7.   She was previously MLH Director of Patient Safety and Quality.

Sharon began her career at Main Line Health as a staff nurse in Labor and Delivery at Bryn Mawr Hospital.  Over the next 17 years she held multiple roles in nursing leadership including Clinical Nurse Educator, Nurse Manager, and Women’s Health Source Educator.  During that time she earned her Masters of Nursing from Villanova University.  Her career in quality, patient safety and risk management began at Paoli and Bryn Mawr Rehab hospitals in 2000 and she later earned certification in risk management (CPHRM).  She was promoted to System Director of Patient Safety/Risk Management in 2010, a role which expanded to include Quality Improvement in 2013.

Sharon graduated from the TJU School of Population Health with a certificate in Healthcare Quality and Safety and became a Certified Patient Safety Professional (CPPS) in 2015.    Sharon has led the MLH culture of safety leadership team for the past several years and looks forward to continuing to guide MLH in expanding our high reliability work while a national search is conducted for the System Vice President, Quality and Patient Safety.

I am very pleased that Sharon is willing to take on this role and look forward to our continued excellence in Quality and Patient Safety through Sharon’s leadership and our collective efforts across the System.
