By Kris Kaulback, MD, MLH Trauma System Director and Paoli Hospital Trauma Medical Director; Ehyal Shweiki, MD, Trauma Medical Director, Lankenau Medical Center; Kerry Larkin, Trauma Program Manager, Paoli Hospital; and Kathleen Martin, Trauma Program Manager, Lankenau Medical Center

We are happy to announce that Paoli Hospital and Lankenau Medical Center received their Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation (PTSF) survey results this week. Paoli and Lankenau earned maximum re-accreditation as Level II Trauma Centers—two of only 40 Trauma Centers in Pennsylvania—effective September 1, 2017.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to the MLH administration and staff of both campuses for the support they have provided throughout the re-accreditation process. Together, we continue to achieve success and are able to deliver this much needed, lifesaving service to those in our communities. We would also like to give special thanks to our Trauma Center teams for their dedication and hard work. We are incredibly honored to work alongside each of you.

Below is a sampling of the site surveyors’ comments about our Trauma Centers:

  • Main Line Health’s Trauma Centers serve as the “cornerstone of their communities.”
  • Paoli’s program was said to have “seen significant trauma cases with patients receiving exceptional care.” It was also stated that “their PI process should be used as best practice for the rest of the state.”
  • Lankenau was described as the “trauma dream team” and was lauded as a “model Trauma Center which others should emulate.” They also shared that Lankenau “served as the benchmark for process improvement in the state.”

A formal announcement to the public will be made by PTSF on October 2, 2017, and external promotion of this achievement will follow. In the meantime, we are sharing this exciting news internally with the MLH team. Thank you again for your continued support.
