Our hearts are with Texas: how you can help

By Jack Lynch, MLH President and CEO

Over the past two days, we have received many inquiries from team members asking how we can join together as a MLH community to support those suffering in the devastating wake of Hurricane Harvey. In particular, I believe we all have a strong desire to support our health care partners who are braving terrible conditions, working around the clock, often risking their lives and being away from family and their own tragedies to help all Texans receive care as a result of this unprecedented flooding.

Many of you may have already donated through charities and organizations that are close to your heart to support the Hurricane relief efforts. For those of you who are interested in making a donation, here are some options that have been recommended:

  1. The American Hospital Association (AHA) announced today that the Texas Hospital Association (THA) has established the THA Hospital Employee Assistance Fund to help hospital employees who experienced significant property loss or damage because of Hurricane Harvey. All funds will be used to directly assist hospital employees in Federal Emergency Management Agency-designated disaster areas. Administrative services are being provided in kind so that 100 percent of donated funds will be used to assist hospital employees. The AHA has contributed an initial $50,000 to the fund. To demonstrate solidarity and support for our colleagues in Texas, Main Line Health will donate an additional $10,000 to the THA Relief Fund.  If you would like to personally contribute to this fund, you can do so by donating directly to THA or through Payroll deduction. To donate directly to THA, follow this link: https://www.tha.org/Harvey/ReliefFund.
  2. The American Red Cross is providing shelter and resources for thousands of victims and volunteers on the ground in Texas and the surrounding areas. You can support the American Red Cross directly by following this link: https://www.redcross.org/donate/hurricane-harvey
  3. The United Way of Greater Houston has created a special hurricane relief fund to support the victims of Hurricane Harvey. You can support this fund directly by donating on their website: https://www.unitedwayhouston.org/flood/flood-donation

As always, I am humbled by the kindness and generosity so many of you have demonstrated in response to this disaster. Your compassion and commitment to others is what sets Main Line Health apart, and why I truly believe we are the best place to give and receive care.
