Mirmont Clinician publishes article on young adult addiction and experiential therapy


Scott Giacomucci, MSS, LCSW, CTTS, CET III, CP, PAT, trauma treatment specialist and clinical skills trainer at Mirmont Treatment Center, had an article titled The Sociodrama of Life or Death: Young Adults and Addiction Treatment, recently published in the Journal of Psychodrama, Sociometry, and Group Psychotherapy. In the article, Giacomucci emphasizes the effectiveness of action-based sociometry in meeting the developmental needs of young adults in addition to recounting the Sociodrama of Life or Death, which manifested spontaneously in an inpatient group at Mirmont Treatment Center and has been enacted with many different groups since. This article highlights different types of experiential therapy that have become incorporated into Mirmont’s clinical program over the past few years.


Giacomucci, board-certified as a practitioner in sociometry, psychodrama, and group psychotherapy through the American Board of Examiners, was recently elected to the Executive Council for the American Society of Group Psychotherapy and Psychodrama. He currently facilitates trauma treatment services at Mirmont’s inpatient unit while providing experiential therapy training for Mirmont staff.
