Konstadinos Plestis, MD, System chief, Cardiac Surgery, Lankenau Heart Institute, and Scott Goldman, MD, director of the structural heart program, Lankenau Heart Institute, along with several other cardiac physician/research colleagues, have co-authored an article, “Ministernotomy Aortic Valve Surgery in Patients with Prior Patent Mammary Artery Grafts After Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting,” which appeared in the January 10 issue of the European Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery. Patients with patent internal thoracic artery (ITA) grafts after prior coronary artery bypass grafting surgery who require aortic valve replacement (AVR) pose unique technical challenges for safe and optimum myocardial protection. The purpose of the study was to review short-and long-term outcomes with redo minimally invasive AVR in patients with patent in situ ITA grafts. Click here to read the full article.
