STEEEP Huddle: T for TIMELY

This week’s STEEEP Huddle contributed by Linda Schanne, clinical nurse educator, BMH Emergency Department, focuses on asking opioid withdrawal screening questions – now available in Epic – of patients in the emergency department or upon inpatient admission helps identify patients who are at risk for opioid withdrawal. Positive answers launch best practice alerts in Epic for clinical testing, a psychiatric consult and a social worker or crisis worker evaluation for a “warm hand-off” to a certified recovery specialist. Conducting timely screenings of patients for opioid use disorder can improve the patient experience by ensuring we are providing all the necessary care for them.

The STEEEP Huddle topics are posted on the Performance Excellence 2020 site at landing.mainlinehealth.org/PE2020.
