Clinical Trial of the Week: Device study for patients who are candidates for mitral valve replacement

By Donna Loyle, communications specialist, LIMR

The Sitral clinical trial is a prospective, multi-center study that is testing the Edwards SAPIEN 3 heart valve. Researchers seek patients diagnosed with severe mitral annular calcification with mitral stenosis and/or mitral regurgitation. Eligible patients must be at high-risk for mitral valve surgery or deemed inoperable due to the extent of the calcification in the mitral valve.

All participants undergo mitral valve replacement with the SAPIEN 3 valve using a minimally invasive approach. Scott Goldman, MD, is the MLH principal investigator. For more, visit
